Is Your Relationship With Jesus Overrated?

Jeremiah 33:3 NIV - ‘Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.’

Is your relationship with Jesus overrated?

Many don’t have the relationship they think they do.

Here’s why …

One time I was working through my sermon for Sunday morning. My message was about having a relationship with Jesus Christ.

I was taking a shower thinking about the message and God spoke to me so clearly.

He said “many of these so-called relationships are overrated. They’re not as great as people say they are!”

I thought, Lord, what are you saying?

Over the next hour or so, God walked me through what He was talking about.

What He explained to me was that He seeks dialogue with us. To have a conversation.

Two-way conversation, not one-way.

And that when people pray to Him, He often can’t get a word in edgewise.

When people dial-up their prayers, they talk about their problems and requests, some even praise Him, but few stick around to hear what He has to say.

It’s rushed. It’s not a two-way relationship, it’s one-way.

Can you imagine a relationship at home or work where only one person did the talking.

Happens all the time, they’re not great relationships.

Sometimes the windbag doing all the talking thinks they’re great, but to the other person who can’t get a word in edgewise, the relationship is one-way, and overrated.

One-way isn’t healthy with our family and coworkers, and it’s not healthy with God.

So even though I talk to God all throughout the day, I’ve really made it a point to carve out some serious time, talking to Him, asking questions, spending time reading the Word, allowing what I read to fuel what the Holy Spirit is showing me.

For me, I love spending time in the Word, and then going for a long “walk and talk” with Jesus, my best friend.

I want Him to enjoy our conversations as much as I do.

Slow down, ask Him questions, listen for answers and consume His Word.

Cheers to better, healthier relationships with our Lord and Savior!
